Rebooting

What

What do we know about rebooting?
It’s a mechanism we all–people who worked with computers everytime–familiar with.

According to to the Online Oxford Dictionaries, reboot means Line breaks.

The definition of reboot in English:
(With reference to a computer system) boot or be booted again.

Rebooting is also an act of booting a computer system again.

Who

Who do that? Of course, the operator of the computer. Maybe a sysadmin, programmer or even someone who accidentally push the reset or power button. It could be anyone, even the computer or server itself do that on its own.

When

We usually do that when the system got crashed, getting slower, or even hung in the middle of something. Or, when we wanted to do the maintenance. We can do it anytime, with or without reason.

Why

Just like I said, with or without reason. Or, one of any reasons above.

Where

In the server room, in our laptop or desktop, or maybe in our mind.

How

By pushing the power button, reset button, Ctrl+Alt+Del button, or intentionally pull the plug out.

What I’m trying to say is…

I’m rebooting myself in the last month (December) and thinking about what I want to do and what I’m about to do. I’ve been assigned as a VP of Engineering at Ardent Labs in November and it last only a month. It turns out that something come along the way and I need to re-think about this. My job, my career, my family, and the most important thing is my goal.

Ardent family was great. They’re super fun, innovative and move pretty fast. They have the right team and attitude to build what they really want to build. I believe they will get there, sooner or later.

I resigned from Ardent Labs in November 30th, 2014 to pursue another things that really interest me much. I still keep contact with them and exchanging emails just to say hello or even discussing about some opinions. Even though I only last for a month, it felt like I’ve been there for three or six months; they’re like family to me.

So, finally, do I really want to build my own company?

Whooa, wait, not so fast. I still need to learn much on every aspect of businesses. Lots of people I’ve met and talked were becoming mentors to me. That’s good.

What do I do in the last month alone? Having fun with family? Have a vacation? Or what?

Yes, correct. I’ve spent most of the time with my family and relatives while doing some consultation work for some government bodies and private companies. One of them is The Jakarta Post Digital.

During that time, I can think clearly about my career and plan on how to align and achieve my goal. I spoke to so many people as much as possible and got to know their thoughts about life, family and career. In the end, I need to move forward and have a decision.

And the decision is?

Starting from January 1st, 2015, I’m joining The Jakarta Post Digital as their CTO. I’m really happy to work alongside with one of my mentors, Budi Putra, as he is the CEO of The Jakarta Post Digital. He has built a great team, great environment and great business for all this time and it’s an honor for me to be one of his team.
